Steven R. Fontes, MAI, CCIM serves as President of Mission Property Advisors, Inc. Mr. Fontes is one of a very limited group of individuals in the United States that have earned both the MAI appraisal designation and the CCIM brokerage designation.
Mr. Fontes has held the prestigious MAI appraisal designation from the Appraisal Institute since 1993. He is a member of the Appraisal Institute in good standing with all continuing education requirement met. MAI designated real estate appraisers are considered to be the most qualified appraisers in the world because the Appraisal Institute is home to the most rigorous appraisal requirements and advanced appraisal education in the world.
Mr. Fontes also holds the prestigious CCIM brokerage designation from the CCIM Institute. CCIM designated brokers are considered to be “the” recognized experts in the commercial and investment real estate brokerage industry. A CCIM (Certified Commercial Investment Member) is a recognized expert in the commercial and investment real estate industry. CCIM’s are proficient not only in theory, but also in practice. This elite corps of CCIMs includes brokers, leasing professionals, investment counselors, asset managers, appraisers, corporate real estate executives, property managers, developers, institutional investors, commercial lenders, attorneys, bankers, and other allied professionals. A CCIM is part of a global commercial real estate network with members across North America and more than 30 countries. This professional network has enabled CCIM members to close thousands of transactions annually, representing more than $200 billion in value. As a result, the experts who possess the CCIM designation are an invaluable resource for commercial real estate owners, investors, and users.
Mr. Fontes is a Certified General licensed real estate appraiser in the State of California. Certified General appraisers hold the highest licensure category offered by the State of California. This license level is generally associated with the appraisal of commercial real estate, but allows an appraiser to appraise any type of real estate without regard to transaction value or complexity. Although he has been in professional appraisal practice since 1985, Mr. Fontes has been licensed as a Certified General real estate appraiser by the State of California since licensing and certification became mandatory on January 1, 1991.
Mr. Fontes is intimately involved in every appraisal report produced by the firm. This ensures a high level of quality. Mr. Fontes has 35+ years of significant and varied commercial real estate appraisal experience. Throughout his appraisal career he has been current with his continuing education requirements. Mr. Fontes has significant appraisal industry involvement, primarily with the Southern California Chapter Appraisal Institute, including serving as its 77th President in 2009.
Members of the Appraisal Institute are held to high ethical standards. They adhere to the Appraisal Institute’s Code of Ethics and prepare appraisal reports to conform to the Appraisal Foundations Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP). Each Member, Candidate, Practicing Affiliate and Affiliate of the Appraisal Institute shall abide by, uphold, and conform his or her actions to the Bylaws, Regulations, Code of Professional Ethics, and Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice of the Appraisal Institute as each may be amended from time to time.
